The scope of this standard extends to all level crossing installations of the following types, and includes all engineering disciplines associated with such crossings:

• Automatic Half Barrier Crossings,

• Automatic Full Barrier Crossings *1

• Automatic Half Barrier Crossings Locally Monitored,

• Automatic Open Crossings Locally Monitored (including OCFLs),

• Automatic Open Crossings Remotely Monitored,

• Miniature Stop / Warning Lights,

• Manually Controlled Barriers (incl CCTV and OCB),

• Traincrew Operated Crossings,

• Manned Gated Level Crossings,

• Open Crossings,

• User Worked Crossings,

• Footpath and Bridleway Crossings,

• Station Barrow Crossings *2.

• Sleeping Dog Crossings

• Mothballed Crossings

Purpose

This standard describes the processes that shall be followed for the maintenance & management of operational level crossing infrastructure and the inspection regime required to demonstrate that level crossing systems are safe, reliable and compliant with legislation.

The processes described are designed to augment, but not replace, the existing technical maintenance processes and procedures mandated by the responsible Professional Head(s).
