Buy Now
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 4 December 2010
Status: active
Page Count: 9
scope:

This specification covers requirements for current and future needs of data transmission and excludes portable devices such as mobile phones, PDAs etc. It does not specifically cover speech requirements, although reference is made to such in the document. Furthermore, whilst the use of current UMTS2100 technology is included, emerging UMTS900 technology has been excluded until the potential impact upon GSM-R operation is better understood.

Purpose

This document provides requirements and guidance for the selection of a UMTS/GSM/GSM-R modem. The modem selected must be capable of transmitting speech and/or data to a defined control point via the public UMTS/GSM/GPRS networks, or via Network Rail's GSM-R network. The method of delivery over the GSM-R network is by using speech or circuit switched data routes with the possibility of future GSM-R GPRS based applications.
