Purpose:
In accordance with the authority in DoD Directives (DoDDs) 5111.01 and 5111.10, and the November 30, 2006 Deputy Secretary of Defense Memorandum, this issuance establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for 406 megahertz (MHz) beacons for search and rescue (SAR) and personnel recovery (PR) missions and in support of the National Addendum to the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (IAMSAR) Manual and the National Search and Rescue Plan (NSP).
