This sprinkler head is intended for use aboard ships in overhead sprinkler systems dispensing a solution of AFFF and seawater, mixed at a nominal 3-percent or 6-percent ratio. The sprinkler heads are intended to be installed in copper nickel tubing in accordance with MIL-T-16420. The military features of this sprinkler head are its resistance to shock impulse and to shipboard vibrations, as well as long life in a marine environment and when exposed to seawater. The foam generating and fire extinguishing capabilities of this sprinkler head are validated for AFFF only. Military components intending to utilize this sprinkler head with foam concentrates other than AFFF are advised to conduct performance testing to validate satisfactory foam quality and fire extinguishing performance. Foam-water sprinkler heads procured to this specification are form, fit, and function replacements for prior revisions. Existing stocks manufactured to MIL-H-24146 dated 2 June 1965 are acceptable for use until depleted.
