scope:

This manual applies to all AFSPECWAR personnel (Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, DAF civilian personnel, and contractors when stipulated in their contracts) involved in training, operational, or administrative aspects of mountain operations. This publication does not address confined space and structural collapse, or tactical insertion and extraction from an aerial platform. This manual does not address off-duty mountaineering (e.g., recreational climbing) by DAF military or civilian personnel.

Purpose.

This manual establishes the AFSPECWAR Mountain Operations Program to standardize administration, training, and qualification procedures. All mountain operations will be conducted IAW this manual. (T-2) Additionally, this manual defines equipment and safety standards required across all MAJCOMs to increase mission effectiveness.
