It applies to:
a) records that are authenticated and secured using electronic signature technology;
b) personnel responsible for planning, implementing, operating and otherwise defining, procuring and building systems that utilise a form of electronic signature solution;
c) transactions that are created, sent, received, maintained or stored electronically.
This standard does not cover the identification or processes required to gain the authority to authorise a document or where a signature is required to enter a legally binding document on behalf of Network Rail. For further information users should refer to the Delegation of Authority Policy or contact Legal and Corporate Services for further advice.
Purpose
The intent of this standard is to allow the use of electronic signature solutions within Network Rail that are practical, secure and that balance risk and cost and provides a framework for regulating the use of electronic signatures.
This standard mitigates the risk of illegal alteration of signatures and protects the validity of electronic signatures.
