This Network Rail standard specifies electronic alternatives to physical signatures, and provides a common set of definitions for electronic signatures.

It applies to:

a) records that are authenticated and secured using electronic signature technology;

b) personnel responsible for planning, implementing, operating and otherwise defining, procuring and building systems that utilise a form of electronic signature solution;

c) transactions that are created, sent, received, maintained or stored electronically.

Purpose

The intent of this standard is to allow the use of electronic signature solutions within Network Rail that are practical, secure and that balance risk and cost and provides a framework for regulating the use of electronic signatures.
