This guideline considers only the use of potential sources of cooling tower makeup water that are external to the plant battery limits. Guidelines for the use of alternate makeup water sources arising from within plant battery limits such as boiler blowdown and RO reject are the subject of CTI WTG-155, (Internal Plant Recycle Water for Use as Cooling Water).

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide general guidelines to plant owners and operators for water conservation through the reuse of degraded water sources external to the plant battery limits as a source of cooling tower makeup water.
