This procedure applies to all Railtrack Directorates with employees engaged in SCW, and managers responsible for arranging, placing, controlling and monitoring of contracts.

The procedure applies to supervisory and managerial staff undertaking SCW as well as rostered employees.

The requirements for controlling excessive working hours of contractors undertaking safety critical work on Railtrack controlled infrastructure are detailed in RT/LS/S008 Railtrack Contract Requirements - Safety.

Purpose

This procedure sets out the processes to be followed in order to control the hours worked by Railtrack employees carrying out safety critical work (SCW) and ensure excessive hours are kept to a minimum.

The procedure defines how Railtrack will comply with the requirements of the Railways (Safety Critical Work) Regulations 1994, together with the associated Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and guidance, and with Railway Group Standard GH/RT4004 Changes in Working Hours - Safety Critical Work.
