Organization: NR
Publication Date: 1 June 2008
Status: active
Page Count: 11
scope:

This Network Rail standard specifies how the Maintenance function manages its responsibilities for the briefing of existing Work Activity Risk Assessment (WARAs) and for the production, documentation and briefing of new WARAs for ad hoc or new generic tasks.

It specifies the processes by which the Maintenance function:

• assesses new risks for routine and non-routine work activities;

• documents and make available the findings from those Risk Assessments to Maintenance employees;

• applies the requirements specified in NR/SP/OHS/00102 when carrying out Risk Assessments for new tasks.

This standard applies to all designated staff that produce or contribute to the production of WARAs and Risk Control Sheets (RCSs).

This standard also applies to all Maintenance managers and supervisors who plan work, deliver work or have a responsibility to advise employees of the risks of work they are asked to perform.

Purpose

It is a legal requirement that all tasks undertaken by Maintenance function employees be assessed for risk and that the risks and their controls are formally documented and briefed to all employees before the work is undertaken.
