This document specifies the safety requirements and additional test methods for special application lifejackets and buoyancy aids (hereafter named PFD) for adults, children or infants. It is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 12402-2:2020, ISO 12402-3:2020, ISO 12402-4:2020 and ISO 12402-5:2020, as applicable.

1.1 Where references are made to ISO 12402 standards, they shall be considered to be to UL 12402 with the applicable Canadian/US National Differences where UL Standards exist. Where references are made to particular requirements within a part they shall include the associated DVs contained in that standard, as applicable.

1.2 Where references are made to the use of at least in the official language(s) of the country of destination, this shall at a minimum include English and French.
