scope:
This standards applies to testing of the ETD emergency facilities (999 - 112) on Network Rail owned electronic PABX switches, including those situated in Infrastructure Fault Controls.
It does not include for the testing of 999 - 112 facilities on ETD services provided by service providers such as Global Crossing or British Telecom or the extension of such ETD calls from their emergency switchboards to the public emergency services. This is undertaken via their own internal processes to fulfil their licence obligations, regulated by Ofcom.
The testing of the CSR emergency facilities is denoted in:
NR/WI/TEL/30073: Maintenance of Driver-to-Signalbox Radio Systems (CSR and SMA).
The testing of the NRN / ORN emergency facilities is denoted in:
NR/WI/TEL/30079: Maintenance of National Radio Network (NRN) and Overlay Radio Network (ORN).
Lineside telephony such as level crossings, signal post telephones, emergency phones etc are to tested as part of their routine maintenance as denoted in:
NR/WI/TEL/30084: Maintenance of Lineside Telephones and Tail cables
NR/WI/TEL/30097: Maintenance of Lineside Plug Points and Tunnel Emergency Communications.
Purpose
This instruction defines the requirements for the functional testing of the emergency facilities provided on Network Rail telecoms infrastructure or that provided to Network Rail under contractual agreements.
