scope:
This Standard Project Procedure is written for PE. Compliance with this SPP is mandatory across all areas of P&E where physical works take place e.g. across Projects and NDS. The SPP is based upon those environmental aspects deemed significant for P&E:
1. Releases to the Environment;
2. Disturbance of Protected Species;
3. Damage to Protected Sites;
4. Nuisance (noise, vibration and dust)
5. Waste Management
The scope of this SPP covers activities and equipment used in support of works carried out on behalf of P&E. This includes work undertaken on Network Rail infrastructure, premises and land occupied for the purposes of delivery of a project e.g. site access, roads/site compounds.
This SPP is applicable to all relevant parties to identify the purpose and definition of each EPI, which will enable individuals to perform their responsibilities correctly and effectively.
Purpose
Network Rail's vision for the railway network is one of engineering and operating excellence and to deliver a modern railway for its customers and the nation. Achieving environmental excellence is an integral part of meeting this vision and Environmental Performance Indicators (EPI's) are an integral part of demonstrating this achievement.
The purpose of this document is therefore to set out the Environmental Performance Indicators, specifically selected for Projects and Engineering (P&E), which shall help drive the business unit towards environmental excellence.
