This procedure is for use by Section Managers [Track] (SM[T]) and their Assistants (ASM[T]) and applies to basic visual inspection activity as set-out in NR/L2/TRK/001 Inspection and Maintenance of Permanent Way.
The procedure does not include arrangements for:
- SM[T] and TME Inspections
- special inspections (for example those associated with hot weather, adverse weather, following an incident report or flooding).
Purpose
The purpose of this Procedure is to give direction to the management of track patrolling activities, with the objective of achieving a consistent approach across the network and improving the reliability and quality of patrolling.
The requirements for patrolling in terms of frequency, items inspected, training and actions to take in case of emergency or adverse weather are already documented in existing standards.
