scope:

The issue of driving cab passes by Network Rail's Senior Train Operations Manager and Train Operations Managers to authorised Network Rail employees and Network Rail appointed contractors. It relates to gaining access to and travelling in driving cabs under the control of Train Operating Companies for the following purposes:

• Inspection, examination and management of the infrastructure
• Monitoring potential risk being imported onto the infrastructure in the conduct of Network Rail's duties as the Infrastructure Controller
• Gaining an understanding of the route(s) (signalling grades only)
• In circumstances and under conditions defined and documented in each case by the Train Operator

Purpose

To define the process by which Network Rail ensures that riding in driving cabs is undertaken only by those Network Rail employees whose essential duties (other than those occasions described in the Rule Book) require them to enter the driving cab environment.
