This instruction applies to all persons engaged in the maintenance of Telecoms Optical Fibre Cables and Fibre terminations for Network Rail.
The maintenance activities detailed in this instruction are designed to identify defects that require rectification in order to maximise the service life of Network Rail's asset.
Purpose
This instruction defines the maintenance requirements for Optical Fibre Cables and Fibre terminations in use on Network Rail telecoms infrastructure.
The purpose of maintaining telecommunications optical fibre cables in good order is to promote their longevity, decrease the incidence of failures through deterioration and to identify potential failures before they become service affecting.
It is Network Rail's intention that inspection shall identify damage and deterioration within the immediate vicinity of the inspection site.
