The handbook shall be used by all planners in Infrastructure Maintenance. Some modules of this manual mandate actions on Infrastructure Maintenance work delivery teams and in particular the Section Planners. Where this is the case it is clearly stated.

The modules form mandatory instructions and guidance information, where clauses are not mandatory this is clearly stated. They are all numbered with a reference in the form NR/L3/MTC/PL0175/01 for example. When it is necessary to revise a module, the controlled list (Maintenance Planning Handbook contents - above) and the module shall be updated in accordance with the process described in NR/L2/STP/001, "Network Rail Standards Management".

Purpose

This document with its modules comprises issue four of the Maintenance Planning Handbook The handbook is a collection of planning introduction, work instructions and guidance notes, some of which existed in previous forms as Network Rail Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Maintenance Procedures. The handbook establishes consistent national planning rules and guidance for Infrastructure Maintenance.

Issue 4 has been updated to reflect the Phase 2B/C reorganisation of Infrastructure Maintenance. The handbook contains work instructions which define both detailed activity and the process required when you are planning work or track access in Infrastructure Maintenance.
