The modules form mandatory instructions and guidance information, where clauses are not mandatory this is clearly stated. They are all numbered with a reference in the form NR/L3/MTC/PL0175/01 for example. When it is necessary to revise a module, the controlled list (Maintenance Planning Handbook contents - above) and the module shall be updated in accordance with the process described in NR/L2/STP/001, "Network Rail Standards Management".
Purpose
This document with its modules comprises issue two of the Maintenance Planning Handbook The handbook is a collection of planning work instructions and guidance notes, some of which existed in previous forms as Network Rail Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Maintenance Procedures or as part of the New Maintenance Programme (NMP) manual. The handbook establishes consistent national planning rules and guidance for Infrastructure Maintenance. Issue 2 has been updated to reflect the Phase 2A reorganisation of Infrastructure Maintenance.
The handbook contains work instructions which define both detailed activity and the process required when you are planning work or track access in Infrastructure Maintenance.
There have been several requests for content of this manual to be changed significantly, but until these new processes and work instructions have been fully developed and reviewed, the manual will remain in its current form. Further updates will be made later in 2008.
