scope:
Use/Relationship: The Hazardous Materials Management Program (HMMP) Plan is the contractor's plan to assure appropriate consideration is given to the elimination or reduction of hazardous materials and to the proper control of hazardous materials that are not eliminated, for system(s), system components, and associated support items throughout all phases of the system life cycle.
a. Data obtained will be used to reduce hazard risk and life cycle ESOH costs. The data will also enable compliance with the requirements of relevant laws and presidential executive orders, including the National Environmental Policy Act, and the regulations that implement those laws and orders.
b. This DID contains the format, content, and intended use
information for the data resulting from the work task described in
paragraph 4.3, including subparagraphs 4.3.1 through 4.3.8, of
Aerospace Industries Association/National
1) The HMMP Plan shall address hazardous materials imbedded in the system, produced by the system, and used or created by operation and maintenance of the system.
2) NAS 411, paragraph 4.3.2 on Hazardous Material
Identification/Analy
3) As an element of Hazardous Material
Identification/Analy
c. The HMMP Plan will also describe the approach for minimizing the use of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) in amplification of the NAS 411 requirements. When Cr6+ use is planned, the HMMP Plan will address the following topics:
1) Cost effectiveness of alternatives over weapon life cycle.
2) Technical feasibility of alternatives.
3) Risks in each specific application (use MIL-STD-882 system safety process).
4) Manufacturing Readiness Level.
5) Material availability over the projected life cycle of the system.
6) Corrosion performance difference of alternative materials processes compared with Cr6+.
d. DI-MGMT-81398B supersedes DI-MGMT-81398A. It is intended for use by system acquisition Program Offices responsible for acquiring or modifying systems where NAS 411 is used as the basis for the HMMP.
