La presente Norma specifica una procedura di selezione in laboratorio su piccola scala per confrontare il comportamento al fuoco relativa a campioni realizzati in materiale plastico o altri materiali non metallici, così come la loro resistenza alla penetrazione della fiamma quando esposti ad una sorgente di accensione con fiamma con potenza nominale pari a 500 W. Questo metodo di prova è applicabile ai materiali plastici solidi ed alveolari di massa volumica apparente pari a 250 kg/m3 , o superiore, quando determinata secondo la Norma ISO 845.
