This Standard specifies geometrical symbols for use in notation of gear data specifed in JIS B 0102.The symbols specified in this Standard shall not be used for other data related to other gears.

The symbols given in this Standard are to be used in relation with the geometrical vocabulary defined in JIS B 0102.

The symbols specified in this Standard comprise two lists:

- the principal symbols, consisting of a single basic letter (table 1);

- subscripts to be used as necessary to qualify principal symbols (table 2 to table 4).

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

ISO 701 : 1998 International gear notation-Symbols for geometrical data (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents in the corresponding International Standard and JIS are IDT Cidentical), MOD (modified) and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
