Die ATV DIN 18317 „Verkehrswegebauarbeiten - Oberbauschichten aus Asphalt" gilt für das Befestigen von Straßen und Wegen aller Art, Plätzen, Höfen, Flugbetriebsflächen, Bahnsteigen und Gleisanlagen mit

- Asphalttragschichten,

- Asphalttragdeckschichten,

- Asphaltbinderschichten und

- Deckschichten aus Asphalt,

sowie für Oberflächenbehandlungen, Schutzschichten und Deckschichten aus Asphalt auf Brücken.

Die ATV DIN 18317 gilt nicht für

- das Herstellen von Schichten mit teer- oder pechhaltigen Ausbaustoffen,

- das Herstellen von Schutzschichten auf Bauwerksabdichtungen, Abdichtungen, Dichtflächen und Estrichen aus Gussasphalt (siehe ATV DIN 18354 „Gussasphaltarbeiten").

Ergänzend gilt die ATV DIN 18299 „Allgemeine Regelungen für Bauarbeiten jeder Art", Abschnitte 1 bis 5. Bei Widersprüchen gehen die Regelungen der ATV DIN 18317 vor.
