Die ATV DIN 18305 „Wasserhaltungsarbeiten" gilt für das Auf-, Um- und Abbauen sowie Vorhalten und Betreiben von Anlagen für offene und geschlossene Wasserhaltungen.

Die ATV DIN 18305 gilt nicht für das Ausbauen von Bohrungen zu Brunnen (siehe ATV DIN 18302 „Arbeiten zum Ausbau von Bohrungen") und die bei Wasserhaltungsarbeiten auszuführenden Erdarbeiten (siehe ATV DIN 18300 „Erdarbeiten"), Bohrarbeiten (siehe ATV DIN 18301 „Bohrarbeiten") und Dränarbeiten (siehe ATV DIN 18308 „Drän- und Versickerarbeiten").

Ergänzend gilt die ATV DIN 18299 „Allgemeine Regelungen für Bauarbeiten jeder Art", Abschnitte 1 bis 5. Bei Widersprüchen gehen die Regelungen der ATV DIN 18305 vor.
