This Code prescribes mm1mum requirements for tile materials, design, fabrication, assembly, test and inspection of refrigeration piping for temperatures as low as -320 F (whether erected on the premises or factory assembled) except as specifically excluded in the following paragraphs.
Users are advised that other piping Code Sections may provide requirements for refrigeration piping in their respective jurisdictions.
This Code shall not apply to:
(a) Any self-contained or unit systems subject to the requirements of Underwriters' Laboratories.
(b) Water piping (except for chilled water, which is considered a brine).
(c) Piping designed for external or internal pressure not exceeding 15 psig regardless of size.
Fuel gas and air piping shall be designed in accordance with USASI B31- Code for Pressure Piping, Section 2, Industrial Fuel Gas Piping.
Piping includes pipe, flanges, bolting, gaskets, valves, fittings, the pressure containing parts of other Components such as expansion joints, strainers and devices which serve such purposes as mixing, separating, snubbing, distributing, metering or con trolling now' and pipe supporting fixtures and structural attachments. It does not include pressure vessels, compressors or pumps, but does include all connecting refrigerant and brine piping starting at the first joint adjacent to such apparatus. It does not include support structures.
