scope:

This standard deals with the sinking of boreholes:

- for bored wells for

- water extraction and introduction;

- ground water lowering;

- drainage;

- degasification purposes;

- for use as ground water gauging stations,

- for taking geotechnical measurements,

- to make use of geothermal energy,

- to install anodes.

The standard also deals with the maintenance, the rehabilitation and the abandonment of such boreholes.

- This standard does not cover:

- earthwork associated with borehole sinking operations (cf. DIN 18300);

- the development of boreholes for the construction of bored piles.

DIN 18299 clauses 1 to 5 shall also apply. In cases where the specifications of DIN 18299 contradict the present standard, the latter shall take precedence.
