Diese Norm gilt für die Messung faseroptischer Lichtleitkabel aus Glasfasern zur Bild- und Datenübertragung (Strecken bis 100 m) und Leitung von Licht sowie optischer Strahlung aus dem nahen infraroten und ultravioletten Spektralbereich. Die Anwendung dieser Norm ist eingeschränkt auf Lichtleitkabel mit Faserbündeln aus mindestens 50 Fasern.
Sie gilt nicht für faseroptische Elemente und Produkte, die zur Nachrichten- und Datenübertragung von Strecken > 100 m vorgesehen sind.
Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung eines einheitlichen Verfahrens zur Bestimmung der Zugbelastbarkeit von Lichtleitkabeln.
