scope:

This standard applies to leak detectors for use in detecting specific hydrocarbon liquids on the surface of water or pooling on a flat surface. Hydrocarbon leak detectors which do not precisely conform to these requirements may be approved if they meet the intent of the standard. Conversely, those that do conform may not be approved if they do not meet the intent of the standard or if other conditions govern.

Purpose 

This standard states Approval requirements for hydrocarbon leak detectors. 

Approval criteria may include, but are not limited to, performance requirements, marking requirements, examination of manufacturing facility(ies), audit of quality assurance procedures, and a follow-up program.
