This standard addresses fire protection requirements intended to reduce the risk of fires and explosions at facilities handling radioactive materials.
This standard shall not apply to commercial powergenerating reactors that are covered by NFPA 804, Standard for Fire Protection for Advanced Light Water Reactor Electric Generating Plants; NFPA 805, Performance-Based Standard for Fire Protection for Light Water Reactor Electric Generating Plants; and NFPA 806, Performance-Based Standard for Fire Protection for Advanced Nuclear Reactor Electric Generating Plants Change Process.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to protect the safety of the public, facility personnel, and the environment from the effects of fire or explosions on radiological and other hazardous materials at facilities handling radioactive materials.
