Diese Internationale Norm legt das Verfahren zum Auftragen des Schweißgutes zum Ermitteln der chemischen Zusammensetzung fest. Diese Internationale Norm gilt für die Herstellung eines Schweißgutblockes durch umhüllte Stabelektroden, Drahtelektroden zum Metall-Schutzgasschweißen, Fülldrahtelektroden zum Metall-Schutzgasschweißen und für selbstschützendes Metall-Lichtbogenschweißen, Füllstäbe für Wolfram-Schutzgasschweißen und Draht-Pulver-Kombinationen für Unterpulverschweißen. Diese Internationale Norm gilt für Zusätze zum Schweißen von unlegierten Stählen, Feinkornstählen, hochfesten Stählen, warmfesten Stählen, nichtrostenden und hitzebeständigen Stählen, Nickel und Nickellegierungen sowie Kupfer und Kupferlegierungen.
