This specification2 covers manganese-silicon carbon steel plates for use in welded boilers and other pressure vessels.
Plates under this specification are produced in one grade only; however, the yield strength decrease on thicknesses over 1 in. (25.4 mm);
The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by the capacity of the composition to meet the specified mechanical property requirements; however current practice normally limits the maximum thickness of plates furnished under this specification to 8 in (205 mm).
NOTE-The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard.
