This handbook covers all the current welding practices used on LU, for the joining and repairing of both running and conductor rails.

Purpose

The purpose of this handbook is to explain how site welding is used in track maintenance and renewals work. The aim is to provide managers responsible for maintaining the track asset with guidance that will help them to decide:

• when and where welding is appropriate

• how it needs to be carried out

• when the work has been satisfactorily carried out.
