scope:

This Standard covers installations of bulk material, pacbge or unit handling conveyors, where the instal· lation is designed for a pennanent, temporary, or portable operation.

This Standard shall apply with exceptions noted below to all conveyor installations.

This Standard specifically excludes any conveyor designed for, installed for, or used for the movement of human beings. This Standard does not exclude certain conveying devices which incorporate within their supporting structure platfonns or control rooms specifically designed for the authorized operating personnel.

This Standard does not apply to conveyors such as underground mine conveyon for which specific standards are already in effect or to equipment such as industrial trucks, tncton, and trailen; tiering machines, except pallet load tierers; crmes; hoists; monorails; power and hand shovels; power scoops; bucket drag lines; platfonn elevators designed to carry passengers or the operator; manlifts; moving walks; moving stairways; highway or rail vehicles; cableways; or tramways. Some of the foregoing also luvc specific standards.

Where conveyor components arc purchased without the manufacturer's knowledge or approval of the application, safety becomes the sole responsibility of the Purchaser.
