This specification defines the requirements of a paint system for the protection of the outer-bottom of ships that have been cathodically protected and steel structures that may be subjected to intermittent immersion in sea and/or fresh water.
This material is intended to be applied by brushing or airless spray.
When used on the outer-bottom of ships it will usually be followed by one coat of an appropriate tie-coat and then finished with an appropriate anti-fouling paint.
It may also be used for the internal protection of tanks containing sea water which may be contaminated with fuel oil.
The paint is available in two colours brown and black only.
The usual system applied to suitably prepared surfaces consists of one coat of black paint, one coat of brown paint and one coat of black paint to give a total dry film thickness of not less than 225 vm.
