1 SCOPE.
This standard defines the minimum performance requirements for service fill engine oils recommended by GM for gasoline-powered passenger cars and light-duty trucks operated under service conditions expected to generate extremely high engine oil temperatures. Engine oils conforming to letter designations ILSAC GF-2 and API SJ as described in International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) Minimum Performance Standard for Passenger Car Engine Oils - November 1995 and ASTM D4485 are required to meet this standard Such oils must also satisfy all licensing requirements of API Publication 1509 (latest edition) relating to use of API Certification Mark or starburst symbol. The owner's manual should be consulted for specific engine oil recommendations.
