scope:
PURPOSE.
This order prescribes the responsibilities and procedures for approving replacement and modification parts for installation on type-certificated products. It applies to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aircraft certification personnel who oversee the approval process required by Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR). We define the procedures that FAA personnel follow when issuing a parts manufacturer approval (PMA) under 14 CFR § 21.303. We also provide insight to individuals applying for a PMA and explain the role of a designated engineering representative (DER) in the PMA process.
