This specification covers lubricating oils for use in refrigerant compressors.

The oil shall be of the following military symbols, as specified (see 6.2):

Military symbol NATO symbol Type II - For reciprocating-type RCO-2 0-282 refrigerant compressors using refrigerant 12 (for example, dichlorodi- fluoromethane, methyl chloride, or ammonia). Type III - For special applications RCO-3 --- such as two-stage rotary compressors. Type IV - For use with refrigerant 22 RCO-4 0-290 (for example, monochlorodi- fluoromethane).
