This specification relates to an epoxy and/or polyester powder-coating primer suitable for application by electrostatic spray. It is intended for use on phosphated steel but may also be used on other suitably prepared metal substrates. The primer shall be capable of being over-coated with undercoat and finish, complying with DEF STAN 80-41, with minimal surface preparation, such as a white spirit degrease, to give a firmly adherent system. Abrading the primer prior to the application of the undercoat shall not normally be necessary. The primer over-coated with undercoat and finish complying with and applied in accordance with DEF STAN 80-41 is expected to have a useful life of at least 4 years in temperate climates or 2 years in tropical climates.
