inactive
Organization: DLA
Publication Date: 25 May 1988
Status: inactive
Page Count: 10
scope:

This document covers the detail requirements for a variable, panel mounted, resistor.

The complete part number shall be as shown in the following example:

The type of bushing is identified by a single letter in accordance with table I and figure 1. TABLE I. Bushing.

Letter Bushing type Bushing length ------------------------------------------------------ G Plain .250 inch N Plain .375 inch H Plain .500 inch M Locking .375 inch L Locking .500 inch S Locking .625 inch T Panel watertight - Plain .250 inch P Panel watertight - Plain .375 inch E Panel watertight - Plain .500 inch Y Panel watertight - Locking .375 inch Z Panel watertight - Locking .500 inch

The shaft length will be designated by a single digit and measured from the mounting surface in inches and eighths (see example).

Example:

4 = 4/8 or .500 inch.

5 = ⅝ or .625 inch.

6 = 6/8 or .750 inch.

7 = ⅞ or .875 inch.

The shaft ending shall be designated by a single letter in accordance with table II and figure 1. TABLE II. Shaft ending.

Letter Description -------------------------------------- S Standard slot F Standard flat

The nominal total resistance value expressed in ohms is identified by a three-digit number. The first two digits represent significant figures and the last specifies the number of zeros to follow. Preferred nominal values are listed in table III. TABLE III. Preferred values in ohms.

100Ω 1 kΩ 10 kΩ 100 kΩ 1 MΩ 200Ω 2 kΩ 20 kΩ 200 kΩ 2 MΩ 250Ω 2.5 kΩ 25 kΩ 250 kΩ 2.5 MΩ 500Ω 5 kΩ 50 kΩ 500 kΩ 5 MΩ

The taper type and resistance tolerance shall be designated by a single letter in accordance with table IV and figure 2. TABLE IV. Taper type and resistance tolerance.

Letter Taper type Resistance tolerance ---------------------------------------------------------- U Linear (U) ±10 percent M Linear (U) ±20 percent A Clockwise modified logarithmic (A) ±10 percent R Clockwise modified logarithmic (A) ±20 percent B Counterclockwise modified logarithmic (B) ±10 percent T Counterclockwise modified logarithmic (B) ±20 percent S Modified linear (S) ±10 percent Y Modified linear (S) ±20 percent
