This Practice details the requirements for installing circuits for power and control to AC squirrel cage induction motors (600 Volts and below) located in Class I, Division 2 areas; in Class II, Division 2 areas; and in unclassified areas. This Practice describes the basic assumptions used in developing these details and provides guidelines for their use.

Motor installation details are arranged in three major groups as follows:

a. Above grade circuits in conduit

b. Above grade circuits in metal-clad cable

c. Below grade circuits in conduit

Each major group of details contains details as follows:

a. Combined power and control wiring in a common raceway

b. Separate raceways for power wiring and for control wiring

c. Power circuits only

d. Control circuits only

Installation details for the following areas are excluded from the scope of this Practice:

a. Installation in Class I, Group A areas

b. Metal-clad cable installation in Class II, Group E areas

Purpose

This Practice provides installation details for power and control circuits to AC squirrel cage induction motors (600 Volts and below) located in Class I, Division 2 areas; in Class II, Division 2 areas; and in unclassified areas.
