scope:

This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for a fully compounded black isoprene rubber which is primarily intended for the manufacture of moulded vulcanized soles and heels which are subsequently attached to the uppers of footwear.

The mix is of high quality with a vulcanizate of nominal hardness 80 IRHD which may be used instead of material complying with Def Stan 83-17 when the direct or moulded-on method of manufacture is not suitable.

The vulcanized mix does not necessarily have good electrical properties and therefore it should not be used for footwear required to have antistatic or insulating properties.
