This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for fully compounded unvulcanized black isoprene rubber mix which is primarily intended for the production of the combined sole and heel in the direct moulded-on method of manufacturing footwear.
The mix is of high quality with a vulcanizate of nominal hardness 80 IRHD. It is intended to be moulded at temperatures not exceeding 165°C and is normally supplied in pre-shaped unvulcanized blanks.
The vulcanized mix does not necessarily have good electrical properties and therefore it should not be used for footwear required to have antistatic or insulating properties.
