This Defence Standard provides information on electrical/electronic components. Logistics requirements dictate that a minimized number of qualified standardized products are selected from the CECC/BS 9000 system. Ministry of Defence preferred ranges do not always contain the complete ranges of items covered by CECC/BS 9000 detail specifications. Reference to such specifications alone does not imply that the complete ranges are approved for Ministry of Defence use.

This Defence Standard also lists Ministry of Defence preferred products promulgated in the Defence Standard 40, 58, 59, 61, 62 and 66 series.

In addition to Ministry of Defence preferred products, this Defence Standard also lists details of qualification approvals of items accepted by the UK under the provisions of NATO Standardization Agreement STANAG 4093 as implemented by Def Stan 05-14. In accordance with Def Stan 05-14 these qualification approvals are notified by means of entries in subsections B, C and D of the various sections of this Defence Standard.
