Scope and object

This part of IEC 404, used as a guide, is primarily applicable to the evaluation of interlaminar insulation coatings applied to magnetic steel sheet and strip covered by the sections of IEC 404-8.

This guide defines methods of test for evaluating the properties of interlaminar insulation coatings applied to magnetic steel sheet and strip in the range of temperatures from ambient to 800 OC as a basis for a type test. It covers the following properties of the material:

i) adhesion;

ii) interlaminar resistance;

iii) compressibility/stacking factor.
