This specification covers self-contained household refrigerators with electric-motor-driven condensing units.

Household refrigerators covered by this specification shall be of the following types, sizes, and grades, as specified (see 6.2).

Type I - Low-temperature-food storage compartment below 32 degrees (°) Fahrenheit (F (0°C)) manually initiated defrost with manual or automatic reset.

Type II - Low-temperature-food storage compartment below 32°F (0°C): automatically initiated defrost with automatic reset.

Type III - Frozen-food storage compartment below 12°F (−11°C); manually initiated defrost with automatic reset.

Type IV - Isolated frozen-food storage compartment below 8°F (−13°C); automatically initiated defrost with automatic reset for general-food storage compartment only.

Type V - Isolated frozen-food storage compartment below 8°F (−13°C); automatically initiated defrost with automatic reset for both general-food storage and frozen-food storage compartments.
