scope:

- This specification covers self-contained household refrigerators with electric-motor-driven condensing units.

- Household refrigerators covered by this specification shall be of the following types, sizes, and grades, as specified (see 6.2).

Type I - Low-temperature-food storage compartment below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (F.); manually initiated defrost with manual or automatic reset.

Type II - Low-temperature-food storage compartment below 32 F.; automatically initiated defrost with automatic reset.

Type III - Frozen-food storage compartment below 12 F.; manually initiated defrost with automatic reset.

Type IV - Isolated frozen-food storage compartment below 8 F.; automatically initiated defrost with automatic reset for general-food storage compartment only.

Type V - Isolated frozen-food storage compartment below 8 F.; automatically initiated defrost with automatic reset for both general-food storage and frozen-food storage compartments.
