Purpose. The purpose of the WCP is to provide direct access by pilots of aircraft equipped with Mode S data link avionics to the weather information provided by the National Weather Service (NWS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Department of Defense (DOD).

This software segment specification establishes the software requirements for the Weather Communication Processor (WCP) system. As a segment specification, there are references made to the WCP hardware specification for completeness. These references are provided for information only and not for the purpose of defining hardware requirements.
