This specification establishes the functional, performance, test and quality assurance requirements for the Weather Communications Processor (WCP) system. This specification contains the hardware and system support software portion for the design requirements of the WCP system.

Purpose. The WCP's purpose is to respond to airborne National Airspace System (NAS) users requests for weather products using the Mode Select Beacon System (Mode S) with data link. To perform this function the WCP must decode incoming requests, collect the requested data, assemble the uplink message and route this message to the appropriate Mode S sensor for transmission. In order to support the data link function the WCP will maintain a data base of the selected weather products required to respond to data link user's requests.
