This Defence Standard specifies the steel hexagon UNF screws, selected in accordance with the guidance given in DEF STAN 53 - 12 (latest issue), to be used, with the exceptions stated below, by the Ministry of Defence in designs based on imperial units and, wherever practicable, for the maintenance of existing equipments.
