scope:
This specification relates to phenolic moulding material intended for use in the production of mouldings by compression, transfer or injection moulding techniques.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that mouldings can be produced from this material which are suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established, and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Director, Propellants, Explosives and Rocket Motor Establishment, Waltham Abbey, Essex.
Mouldings made from this quality of material are also intended for use where metallic corrosion, particularly of non-ferrous metals, could occur.
Two grades* of material, QX-1 and QX-2, differing in their mechanical characteristics and available in either black or natural colour are specified.
* QX-1 and QX-2 are respectively equivalent to the classifications 10/6 and 27/6 described in earlier editions of this specification.
