This Standard relates to a system of low-lead stoving paints suitable for the protection of Service vehicles and equipment to provide a nearly matt , petrol and heat resisting finish with specified near infra red reflecting properties and good outdoor durability for camouflage purposes.' The paint system is expected to have a useful life of at least four years in temperate climates, or two years in tropical climates.
This paint system is not intended for use in conditions of prolonged immersion in water.
The paint system is intended for application to suitably prepared ferrous surfaces and to aluminium and aluminium alloy surfaces which have been treated with pre-treatment primer complying with DEF STAN 80-15.
The normal paint system applied to suitably prepared surfaces will consist of:
Priming paint to produce a dry film thickness of 30 +/- 5µm. Undercoat to produce a dry film thickness of 25 +/- 5 µm. Finishing paint to produce a total dry film thickness for the complete system of not less than 110 µm.
Two coats of the finishing paint applied over existing , sound, stoving paint that has been suitably prepared, will provide the specified infra red reflectance.
The finishing paint is available in two colours only, Colour No 285 NATO Green of BS 381C and Black.
The NATO Green finishing. paint will satisfy the requirements of DEF STAN 00-23 which implements STANAG 2338.
